Silent Persuasion

“No, I really can’t” she said.  “It’s late and I have to be up in the morning.”
As was his habit, he didn’t say a word.  Didn’t try to argue her into it.  Instead he just sat there, looking at her.
“Don’t give me that look” she said.  “It’s not going to work.  You know I love you, but I have to say no”.
With that, he moved a little closer, shortening the distance between them.  She tried to look away, but it was almost impossible to avoid his gaze.  His brown eyes were one of his best features, and he used them to his advantage.
“I know you think that if you give me enough time, I will change my mind.  Well, it’s not going to happen. Not tonight”.
He could tell from the tone of her voice that she was beginning to lose her conviction. That is when he leaned over and gave her a little kiss on the neck.  He felt her stir, but she didn’t move away.
“Stop that” she said softly.  “You’re just playing me to get your own way and I’m not falling for it”.
But, he knew she was.  Slowly, he got up off the couch and ambled into the next room, glancing back once to catch her watching him.  In a few minutes he returned and, standing directly in front of her, dropped his leash on the floor.
“Alright! Alright! she said.  “Let me get my shoes and I’ll take you for a walk.  Are you happy now”?
And, of course, he was.

About oldmainer

I am a retired manager living in Southern Maine and a would be writer of poetry, narratives, short stories, and random opinions, and that's how Oldmainer was born. Recently, I decided to try an experiment. I added photography to the mix, using only a cheap cell phone with a limited camera and the editing software that came with it, and added the blog site Inklings at poormanspoet.wordpress.com to showcase the results. So, feel free to use whatever you find interesting or worthy, but please honor the terms of my copyright when and if you do. They may not be much, but they are still a piece of me. I appreciate your checking me out and hope that you find something that will encourage a return visit. Thanks for stopping by.
