So It Begins

Hello to any and all.  I am a seasoned citizen that retired to southern Maine a few years ago, returning to my New England roots.  A year or so ago, I decided to start writing poetry and narratives about whatever held my interest long enough to record it.  Needless to say, at this point in my journey, I have a lot of memories, and most of them are good.  A lot of what I write reflects on the “used to be”, but I also like to rummage around in day to day things that I observe, with a few opinions thrown in from time to time.  So I guess I would best describe this blog as an eclectic collection of random ramblings from an idle mind, offered to anyone that wants to join me on the porch and set a spell.  Hope you enjoy, and would love to hear from you.

Memories linger in the shadows
Retracing footsteps of my past
Trails I traversed now seem kinder
Rough edges by the years recast

Loved ones, friends, like crystal sparkle
In the light of elder days defined
The test of time deletes transgressions
Leaving just the best behind

How I love to sit among them
Sample each one as I may
Taste the nectar of a lifetime
Wrapped in my world of yesterday

About oldmainer

I am a retired manager living in Southern Maine and a would be writer of poetry, narratives, short stories, and random opinions, and that's how Oldmainer was born. Recently, I decided to try an experiment. I added photography to the mix, using only a cheap cell phone with a limited camera and the editing software that came with it, and added the blog site Inklings at to showcase the results. So, feel free to use whatever you find interesting or worthy, but please honor the terms of my copyright when and if you do. They may not be much, but they are still a piece of me. I appreciate your checking me out and hope that you find something that will encourage a return visit. Thanks for stopping by.
